Freesia: Water colour sketch tutorial in 5 steps

So this week I gave my first "still life : sketch and water colour class at the beautiful Collective Store, in Wynnum. So I decided to start posting a few tutorials on my blog, perhaps it can help others. My style is quite minimal in colour and illustrative as I always use a pen to finish of and add some details. (Link attached below) Step 1 Lightly sketch out the flower (HB pencil) Step 2 Work your shades of green from lightest to darkest using a fine brush ( viridian green, dark green, hint of blue) Step 3 Work up the flowers from light pinks, to deeper crimsons. Porcelain flowers

Here are some wonderful master craftsman that use porcelain to create soft delicate, realistic flowers in a medium that can often look bulky or tacky. They seem to excel in still capturing the fragility of the flower beautifully! These examples where found through Pinterest. My best creation ever!

So it does not take a genius to see that I've been a little absent from my blog, my bench and my creative online audience but it is all with good reason. On the 1/1/2011, I gave birth to my best creation ever....... My son. So i have taken some time off to take care of him and myself. With that comes the opportunity to reflect, to see the world through fresh eyes and to take joy in all sorts of things. It will be interesting to see where this takes me and I'll be sure to document it on my way even if some of the blog post are a little delayed. With this new year in full swing it is time for fresh starts, new adventures and new creations. Happy new year everyone! May yours be as blessed as mine has, is and will be.
